: A precious pearl
on Tuesday, January 17 @ 08:06:51 UTC
Anonymous writes:: " When I came on this earth,
There were no joys & no chirps,
There were no congrats, no sweets,
No hymns, no mantras, and no ceremonies.

From the first day of my life
I was trained to listen to sorrow & sighs,
I started facing the harsh world,
With a promise to be a lotus in the mud.

One by one the petals opened of the flower,
I proved myself to be a great scholar,
Now I was shining with successful career,
There were no ifs, no buts, no barriers.

I was brave enough to spread my wings,
Slowly & slowly I made this world think,
That they had got a precious pearl
Yes! it was in the form of a GIRL.

Oh world! stop the killing of female foetus
It can be a scientist, a scholar or a poetess.

I am also pro life, yet I realize the necessity of abortion....its a harsh reality but it isnt going to just go away because outside the US there is over population and unfortunately, sometimes the most drastic measure is taken. I think within the US and other westernized societies we cant just get rid of abortion because women will find some other much less safe outlet. Women need to be protected, it is worse to have a dead mother and embryo i believe than it is to have just one life (but many, i understand when you do the math of all the women getting one) extinguished......I hate saying it, but Im too pragmatic too look at just one side of things.
Also, since we are on the subject of abortion, I think there is one country that disgusts me the most with their abortion, China. It's really sickening how that country uses propaganda to punish women for having more than just one child. You should read up on it, its interesting but very sad.

About the poem, I really liked that you talked about Buddhism (or Hinduism?) because it reflects your ethics and who you are. You elaborated on that well. I was sort of taken by surprise by the sudden political statement at the end. I believe it takes away from the flow of this piece and it takes away from you. If you want to write a poem about abortion and how you feel about it, go ahead. But I dont think it fits here, not very well at least. That is just my opinion, though. You dont have to agree.
also, I liked the use of onomatopoeia, it made this flow well.

I think foetus, should be foetuses but the way.

good luck
Nicole
