mLp writes:: " It wasn't gloom that made us wonder
the steep threshold
from noon until sunset. Wasn't hour long
conversations that kept quiet
candles glowing on the
empty ledges of country windows and
shivered as breezes
soft as moth wings blew
silken smoke thin curtains into
our lives.

Nor was it the tremble of ice blue stars
awake in
polar Heaven that laughed
our children into
dreams of ages we will
never know.
Or the cry of unseen birds chatting
in frozen treetops
about the coming dawn.

And we couldn't explain the tastes of rain
dripping coolly down the
corners of our lips
with words as simlpe
as silver
and blue
but we tried.

Was it the drift of clouds lazily
asleep overhead
that we followed
smiling shyly in
simple humor until the long shadows
of deep artic night
fell lonely across
our faces,
our broken hearts?

No,
it wasn't the day we
demanded, and its
warm burn across our
eyelids
and open mouths,
its phases and wandering soul.
No,
without voices to
utter each angry memory,
each sad latitude
of thoughts adrift in an endless sea,
we have nothing
but awe to witness
the emptiness of earth and its
shifting body,
and our own forms, our soft skins and
violent curves dissolve
here
and fade like distances
into those hidden places where
no eyes should find them
and remember. "
