shadows, cities,
sidewalks sitting filthy in
silver silhouettes, shaking,
crash sleepless. Halos and
sighs,
neon lunch break cigarette jazz and
boom box suicide love poems
and those who left home,
leaving.
Strange music,
doors cracked slightly,
elevator rundowns,
cool aluminum breezes
blowing half notes, a song he wrote
about some girl walking
lovely lonely across avenues and one
way ticket heartaches,
she breaks against glass windows where
rain water wanders when
city lamps burn blue bruises
into a sudden storm cloud.
Everywhere I go; stranded pocket change and
paper planes passing small revolving planets,
pigeons playing hopscotch
stick ball,
fire escape romance and curtains banging the oval faces
of children laughing.
Cheap jewellery winos begging coffee stains from alcoholic
housewives on halcion. Lost in aquarium nights
losing stars as TVs tremble with dropped bombs and game show circus nightmare fortunes.
The fake gold
of glimmering constellations
everywhere.
Lights fade like lives, sunrise or a single polar moon in solitude
shivers awake
over cities where
sleep
lies dreaming a dream of silence.
Hushed like a whisper lost,
a castaway caught
in an endless wave.
