Poetry is like food!
|
on Tuesday, September 28 @ 00:00:00 UTC
lee-civico-cambell writes:: " My mother told me that poetry is like food. Some people find a salad delicious; some think they are lightweight. Some like steaks rare, the juices flowing from a tender piece. Some people think that a rare steak is bloody, vulgar and too close to the thing it was. Some prefer a steak to be well cooked, smaller than a rare steak but avoiding the blood and ugliness. Some find a well-cooked steak to be dry and hard to swallow.
She explained that a trained chef may prepare a meal following procedure and training, it looks beautiful and the small portion leaves you wanting more. A housewife may cook a meal, working on feeling, experience and what is available to hand. While the meal may lack the initial visual wonder of the trained chef, it still tastes wonderful. The housewife’s meal is more filling yet still satisfying, leaving enough room for another course.
My mother went on to explain that different people like different foods, different flavours. She told me to remember this when writing poetry and not to be too concerned with other people’s opinions.
My mum is bloody stupid.
