lee-civico-cambell writes:: " A mangled transient lies in a foetal position.
His knees tucked into his chest.
He does not beg.
The 3-legged dog does all the begging with its eyes;
with its helplessness.
Pulling at the pity strings.
There are plenty of jobs out there?
If he wanted he could get a job.
Mental health issues?
Laziness doesn’t count.
Abused childhood?
Stinking of shit won’t resolve any issues.
Can’t get a job?
Well get a house and sort yourself out.
Can’t get a house?
Well get a job and sort yourself out.

This poem is striking for the imagery and the voice indeed. What is most excellent about a poem like this is that everyone has to relate to it. You're either the transient or the one scoffing at the transient. Or you're the one to give the guy some food. Perhaps you're a cleaner transient who doesn't stink so much and is pissed because this guy gives all transients a bad name! Job well done again!

Cheers

Hi,

I like the way you walked between the the visual image of the bum and the sound image of the society, bringing both around to illustrate the intractable nature of the situation.....thanks for the read...ttfn Laurel
